MythForce hits me right in my childhood

A new roguelite is set to release, and it hits me right where it hurts: my childhood.

Beamdog, a Canada-based game developer known for the remastered editions of Baldur’s Gate and Planescape: Torment, has announced their first original IP, MythForce, a third-person fantasy action roguelite inspired by old-school Saturday morning cartoons of the 80s. The game will be published by Aspyr Media, which recently acquired Beamdog.

“I’m beyond excited to finally show off our team’s original work,” said Beamdog CEO Trent Oster in a press release. “MythForce is pure, unadulterated fun—right out of the Saturday mornings of my childhood. With a simple yet satisfying game loop, it’s a big departure from the RPG classics we’re known for, but the Beamdog DNA is evident if you know where to look.”

“Beamdog is a tremendously talented group that we’ve admired for a long time. Their development philosophy and studio vision are perfectly aligned with ours. We look forward to seeing them realize their ambition with MythForce while maximizing the long-term potential of an incredible archive of classic games,” said Ted Staloch, CEO of Aspyr.

MythForce is set to launch exclusively on the Epic Game Store on April 20, 2022. In the meantime, enjoy the gameplay trailer, as well as an 80s-esque cartoon intro, posted by Beamdog on their Youtube channel.
