The early 90s were a magical time for the video game industry, as the great console war between the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, better known as SNES, battled the Sega Genesis or the Sega Mega Drive in some regions. I’m not in favor of war in any shape or form, but you can’t deny how these two console titans trade blows (who could forget the infamous “Sega does what Nintendon’t” line) and, in the process, gave us some of the best games the industry has ever seen like Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Mario World, Streets of Rage 2, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and the list just goes on and on.
Fast forward 30 years later, and both consoles have etched their places in video gaming history, but one of them will receive a new game soon!
Neofid Studios has announced that their upcoming game Astebros is currently in development and will be coming to the Steam platform, the Nintendo Switch, and surprisingly, the Sega Genesis! That’s right, a new release will be coming to the console 25 years after being discontinued!
Astebros is a roguelite action platformer that can be played solo or multiplayer. You have a choice between three heroes: the Knight, the Ranger, or the Mage, and battle through six procedurally generated levels, each with its own boss at the end, and opportunities to further strengthen your character, both temporarily and permanently, after each successful boss fight.

The project is currently being funded on Kickstarter and, as of this writing, it has received $76,631 in pledges from 870 backers from their target goal of $55,242 with 7 days to go before the campaign ends. A demo has also been released where you can download the ROM version of the game and play it on an emulator of your choice.
With the crowdfunding exceeding their goal, expect the game to be released in 2023 as indicated on the game’s Kickstarter page.
