The Steam Summer Sale 2022 Editor’s Picks

UPDATE: Upon checking on the list of discounted games, it seems that one of the games on our list was not actually on sale. We have since removed the game from our list.

We erred and humbly apologize for it.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year once again, and no, we’re not talking about Christmas. We’re talking about that time of the year when all your hard-earned money goes into the money sink and straight into Gabe Newell’s pockets. Yes, it’s time for the Steam Summer Sale!

Singing aside, there has been an abundance of excellent roguelites within the past few years and with the Summer Sale now live, most of them are going to have discounts ranging from 10% to a whopping 90%, and with all the great titles to choose from, picking the right game for you could be difficult. Luckily, similar to the “Going Rogue” event, we’ll give you a helping hand!

To help you decide which game you should pick, Kinix and yours truly have listed 5 of our picks on which games you should pick up. We’ve also added a tiny description of each game as to why you should buy it: whether because the game is on a massive discount or really too good to pass on, etc.

My Picks

The Steam Summer Sale 2022 Editor's Picks - Cerebro's Picks
  • Rogue Legacy 2 – This shouldn’t come as a surprise if you’ve either read the article or watched the video of my review about this game. This game is phenomenal and is still my runaway pick for Roguelite Game of the Year if there is such a thing.
  • Monster Train – If Monster Train being one of the best deckbuilder roguelites out there isn’t motivation enough for you to buy this game, then the 70% discount on top of it surely will!
  • Warhammer: Vermintide 2 – As a game that came from one of the most popular franchises in gaming history, Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is thriving as one of the popular roguelites and with an 80% discount as well as the recent release of the “Chaos Wastes” free expansion, there’s no better time than now to get this game.
  • Crypt of the NecroDancer – Probably the most successful rhythm roguelite in history, Crypt of the NecroDancer mixes music and combat really well, and if you decide to get it now, it will cost you 80% less than the original price.
  • SYNTHETIK: Legion Rising – Despite having an excellent “Very Positive” rating in over 8,000 reviews, Synthetik seems to be overlooked most of the time, but make no mistake: this game is a legit fun twin-stick shooter, and is definitely a steal at a 75% discount!

Kinix’s Picks

The Steam Summer Sale 2022 Editor's Picks
  • Spelunky – For a dollar, there is simply no excuse not to get into this series. Spelunky is brutal and not always fair but the fun is in the failure, perfected platforming mechanics, and roguelite formula execution. One of the greatest rogues ever made.
  • Receiver 2 – To say this game means a lot to me is an understatement. This game got me through 2021 with its eerie atmosphere and stealthy, strategic gameplay. My personal GOTY from 2020.
  • Peglin – one of the more unique games to release in early access this year, Peggle meets the roguelite genre and it blew up in the content creation sphere. It looks really satisfying and addictive.
  • Scourgebringer – This game has some of the best melee combat in the genre, and I actually wrote about it if you want more detail on why this game is great, especially at 50% off.
